“I’ve been doing triathlon more or less seriously for about 7 years now. Until then, I had been content with short-distance races. After watching the 2014 Ironman World Championships in Hawaii on TV, I was definitely infected with the triathlon virus and set my sights on the Ironman 70.3 in Rapperswil. The closer race day came, the more I realized that I was probably not yet in the shape to finish it with confidence and live up to my expectations.

So in August 2015, I took part in a race that was somewhere between the Olympic and half-distance in terms of distance and suffered like a dog on the running course in the scorching heat. I got to the point where I said to myself, either you bury your dream of the half-distance or you get yourself a coach. I came across Roy on the internet. After contacting him by e-mail, I received a surprisingly quick reply. From the very first phone call, I had the impression that he was a good fit. It’s not always pleasant when he points out my mistakes and shortcomings in all three disciplines. But in the end, that’s the only way I can progress. After just a few swimming training sessions, I was able to make initial progress in what is probably my weakest discipline. I am now training with a heart rate monitor for the first time, which took some getting used to at first for me, having resisted it for years, but clearly showed me that I had been training in completely the wrong heart rate zones in the past. This and the fact that I was able to finish my first half marathon under my target time without any special preparation makes me very confident that I will be able to leave one or two competitors behind me on the running course in the future.

I really appreciate training according to a clearly structured and personalized plan, always knowing that there is someone behind it who knows a lot about how to train what and when. I’ve struggled through my daily training routine more or less without a plan for long enough. Roy, your training plans make training fun again, despite all the effort! I’m really looking forward to our continued collaboration and am already very excited about the coming 2016 season!”
