Short report from Ironman Hamburg
On 29.07.2018 I started at the Ironman Hamburg. The city of Hamburg issued a swimming ban due to the blue-green algae caused by the high water temperatures in the Alster lakes. Therefore, an Ironman “duathlon” was held. I needed a total time of 9:18:26 hours for the 6 km run (0:26:52 hours) / 180 km bike (4:56:31 hours) / 42 km run (3:47:47 hours) in midsummer temperatures.
I won the M 55 – 60 age group and also became German champion in this age group.
This performance qualified me for the Ironman World Championships in Hawaii on 13.10.2018. Although I have a lot of respect for this tough competition, I will be competing there this year.
The structured training camp on Lanzarote in February 2018 with you played a big part in this success. The 20 minutes of strength endurance training on the mountain with a cadence of 60 was particularly beneficial. The interval training of 1 minute 290 watts and then 1 minute 220 watts also did me good.
Many thanks for the great tips at the training camp and from your book!
