After a brief move to another coach, I ended up back with Roy in November 2013. I had a big goal for 2014, the Ironman in Zurich, and I wanted to prepare as well as possible for it. Roy gave me great support and was always able to motivate me to continue, even though I had an Ironman crisis more than once and thought about unsubscribing several times. I also have to say that I’m not easy to train. It was probably a challenge for Roy too.
My preparatory competition, the IM 70.3 in Rappi, went very well (5.20h), which made me positive for the IM Zurich. Finally, on July 27th, I was at the start. Swimming, which isn’t exactly my forte, was pretty good. Biking and running was so cool. I had a great feeling until the end. I ended up in 5th place. (11.36 a.m.) My goal last winter was actually to qualify for Hawaii, but someone else should have done the swim for me!
This was my 2nd Ironman. I didn’t remember the first one in 2010 that well.
Although I had a mental low after the Ironman and didn’t know what now, I started competing again after two weeks. And right now I’m doing better than ever.
Roy is a great coach. He is motivating, positive and upbeat and responds to the athlete. Some of his training sessions are very hard but cool. It also adapts to my ever-changing plans. I don’t think I would have made it this far in sport without him. But the most important thing for me is never to lose the joy of sport…
