“I am very involved in my private and professional life and hardly did any sport in my 20s and most of my 30s. As I got older and inevitably approached 40, I signed up for the Uster Sprit Triathlon in 2013. The triathlon took place on my doorstep, so to speak, and I had always been fascinated by bikes with disk wheels and aero helmets. After that, I was immediately gripped by triathlon fever. I read everything on the subject, from the Ironwar between Dave Scott and Mark Allen, Joe Fiel’s Triathlon Bible, countless triathlon and cycling books and magazines. In 2014 I registered for 4 Olympic triathlons, the IM 70.3 Rapperswil in 2015 and then the IM Zurich in 2016. I trained myself and was more than satisfied with my finishing time of 12.07 at IM Zurich.
When I held Roy’s book Triathlon Total in my hands in January 2018, I also realized that I wasn’t training with optimal effectiveness with my previous homemade “training home cooking” and the manageable time budget. I immediately liked Roy, who was more like Mark Allen, with a holistic approach to sport. He responded very individually and flexibly to my limited time and constantly provided the right training stimuli. In addition to individual training planning and a new plan every 3-4 weeks, Roy also took the time to get to know me personally, to understand my professional and family context and to include me in the planning. The use of the swimming channel in Horgen was very informative, even if in my case it did not result in any short-term improvements, as the analysis revealed quite fundamental deficits. Roy’s coaching was characterized by clear training strategies for each unit, a clear logic of loading and unloading, data-driven analysis and direct implementation in the next training unit.
All in all, Roy’s mentoring was successful and effective and without any additional time commitment I was able to improve my IM finisher time in Zurich 2018 in the heat by 47 minutes!”
